Introducing: Women in 5G
BT’s Caroline Morris has been busy attending 5G World where she participated in a number of presentations and round table sessions. It was here that Caroline noticed a distinct lack of female representation and decided to do something about it. After some initial research she felt there were no groups with the distinct purpose she was looking for, so she decided to set up her own ‘cross industry network’ aptly named ‘Women in 5G and so much more’. The objectives of the group are simple; to build a platform for women connected by 5G; to network, share ideas and innovate, to help grow the next generation of Women in 5G and continue to raise awareness through education, mentoring, career development and job sharing opportunities and to improve representation of Women at 5G events by driving more awareness and effective partnering with event producers and organisers.
Caroline has already received great support from innovation organisations and senior industry stakeholders; she held a successful kick off meeting with Informa, producers of Global 5G events, who have agreed to support the brand and help generate awareness, which is fantastic news. Caroline herself will be taking a role in publicising the group at upcoming events over the coming months and the mentoring scheme is starting to take shape. She is also working with our own Tech Women programme to reach the entry level, grad and apprentice level women starting their careers to provide additional career support, networking & advice. This initiative is only a few weeks old and already has over 210 members – amazing! It’s a fully inclusive group everyone is welcome including promoters and advocates of women in telecoms regardless of gender.
